Since 1995, Jiangsu has added more than 10 million tons of proven crude oil every year, and has made great breakthroughs in natural gas exploration. With the continuous advancement of the coal industry to resolve excess capacity, the production of raw coal has gradually decreased. In 2018, Jiangsu's raw coal production was 12.458 million tons, a decrease of 43.2% over 1985 and an average annual decrease of 1.7%.

The rapid development of new energy production

Optimization of energy production structure
In the 70 years since the founding of New China, the proportion of Jiangsu's fossil energy production to total primary energy production has been declining. In 2018, the proportion of raw coal production in total primary energy production was 27.5%, compared with 1987, the proportion dropped by 66.6 percentage points. From 1987 to 2013, the proportion of crude oil production in total primary energy production continued to increase. (I) Eliminate backward production capacity
In the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, Jiangsu has conscientiously implemented the country's planning opinions on promoting the optimization and upgrading of the coal power industry, unswervingly eliminated outdated coal power units that have failed to meet standards, continuously improved the level of clean utilization of coal power, and actively and steadily pushed forward the optimization of coal power structure upgrade. After the State issued the “Action Plan for Coal Mine Units Emission Reduction Upgrade and Upgrading and Reconstruction”, Jiangsu introduced a coal power ultra-low emission plan. The four million-kilowatt generating units of Lianyungang Tianwan Nuclear Power Station have all been completed and connected to the grid for power generation. With the steady development of Jiangsu's economy, the ability to guarantee the supply of high-quality energy is facing new challenges.
